Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott
The subject we are doing our project is on the Montgomery Bus Boycott/Rosa Parks. we decided to do this subject because we have always wondered about how the blacks worked so hard to get there freedom. This all started when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus which was in the front of it and they told she had to sit in the back and she ended up getting arrested. When this happened all of the blacks got behind her and boycotted the bus system in Alabama.
Our research on this project was pretty easy to find sources because this was such a big thing in U.S history. We found most of our sources on the internet and we did end up finding six books in the library. We went into the library many times in the morning to get all of our sources. We feel like we spent most of our time researching the topic and setting up the website was that much easier.
Our best source that we used was from the internet site was www.montgomeryboycott.com. This was a great site because it had newspaper articles in there, interviews of the people on the bus or that were alive at that time. We also found pictures during the boycott, an interview with Rosa parks and a summary of her life and what happened at the Montgomery Bus Boycott. This site gave us great facts and made us even more interested in the topic. When we read through the entire site we knew what we should be searching on google for and what would be the most interesting part of it to learn about. Another site we used to get most of our pictures from was google images. This gave us pictures of Rosa Parks mug shot, and a picture of the African Americans protesting.
While researching this project we found out how hard the blacks had to work for freedom when they should’ve just been treated equal like the rest of us and not had to work so hard. //We also found out that this wasn’t the end of discrimination to blacks it took many years after to gain more rights and they are still being discriminated against today. The more research we did we found out that Rosa Parks was a normal person like all of us she wasn’t someone like Martin Luther King who spent all of his life for the civil rights movement.
This protest was one of the best things that could have happened to the blacks in their history. It showed whites that they weren’t just going to be pushed around anymore and they were going to stand up for themselves. The debate over blacks having freedom still goes on today because some whites are just too arrogant to say that we should all be treated equal. The KKK is an example of this today and that just shows how blacks will never be looked at in some people’s eyes as equal.
